extended info
General Characteristics
Name: Ben Vaughn.
Appearance: Tom Hughes (BBC's Silk)
Other Names: Boy. Kid. He has always been the youngest-looking of the officers at the police stations where he has worked. He doesn't mind.
Titles: Investigator, detective.
Theme Song: The Jungle Giants - Skin to Bone
Personal Characteristics
Birth Date: April 1st 1985. 29 years.
Birth Place: Chicago.
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois.
Primary Objective.
Try to remain true to his character and not let the dark things get to him.
Secondary Objective(s).
Fight against the powers of evil. waaaaaah.
Desires.
Forgetting about the bad things. Moving on. Having fun. Enjoying his life.
Secrets.
How afraid he really is. He has managed to keep it as a secret from himself too. He doesn't even want to acknowledge the fact that stopping and actually dealing with problems would make him break down.
Quirks.
His energy. He can pull an innocent face like no other despite doing all kinds of shit. He's self-centered to the point where he can forget about people and yet he manages to come across as caring and gentle.
Mental Characteristics
Known Languages. English, little Spanish.
Lures.
People who aren't what they seem to be. Confident people, funny people, interesting people, people with secrets.
Savvies.
Tech. Italian motorcycles. He likes to keep up with the latest phone models, consoles and stuff. (He's not that good with cars though.) He's quick to make new friends and get to know new people.
Ineptitudes.
He will never understand people who decide to settle down and stop chasing their dreams. People who declare they're "adults" now and refuse to do something he'd consider fun. He doesn't want to understand deep fears people may have.
Temperament.
His moods change fast but he's not an aggressive person.
Hobbies.
Trashy detective novels. Fixing his motorcycle (Moto Guzzi 850 T3). Racing games on his phone. Running.
Intellectual Characteristics
Logical-Mathematical.
07/10 Detective.
Spatial.
06/10 If he concentrates he can be good at it.
Linguistic.
04/10 He talks a lot but his writing isn't that good. Big words are for posh people.
Bodily-Kinesthetic.
09/10 Ben played football back in high school and he was talented enough to get a scholarship for it. Lately the only sport he has done is running. He's quite precise with a gun and quick to react.
Musical.
04/10 Music is background noise to him except when he's dancing.
Interpersonal.
08/10 He has many friends and he's always making new ones, but there's always a line to how far the friendships go. At some point he seems to stop caring and understanding, it's like he goes oh, I've spent enough energy on this one person, time to move on. It can be hurtful and rude. If he only saw more trouble he'd be better at reading people. He seems to use this talent at work but not in his personal life. A high level of commitment makes him withdraw from the relationship. He likes to surround himself with people.
Intrapersonal.
06/10 He doesn't want to think about his life. He's self-centered in the sense that he likes to talk about himself and his habits, but he's not one to analyze himself and his actions. Not aloud nor by himself. He'd rather not think about what really goes on in his mind. He'd rather not be left by himself in the first place.
Existential:
01/10 He doesn't believe in god or aliens. It would be cool if they existed, but they don't. Period.
Philosophical Characteristics
Morality.
He cares about people and wants to help them, but he often ends up hurting others with his careless attitude. It's never intentional.
Perception.
Pessimistic/Optimistic : Optimistic in the sense that he feels like he will live forever. Like teenagers do. He'll get his happy ending. Things always turn out fine in the end. He doesn't care. He's young. This is how he will continue thinking until shit really hits the fan. So far he has been lucky.
Sadistic/Masochistic : Definitely too into himself to be masochistic. Watching others get hurt is funnier.
Idealist/Realist : He's definitely an idealist and would end up disappointed in life if he actually started thinking about it.
Spiritual Characteristics
Religion. Atheism. Although he hasn't given it much thought.
Superstitions. None other than trusting that luck is always on his side.
Virtues.
Kindness : He's capable of unselfish love and voluntary kindness even if these things don't last long. He's emphatic and wants to help those in need. Friends are important.
Justice : Those who do wrong will be punished. He tries to stay on the right side of things.
Vices:
Greed : He'd like to be rich, why not.
Lust : He's a physical person and believes that fun should be had when there's an opportunity. He has cheated on his partners countless times but it has always happened in a moment of passion.
Sloth : In the sense that he'd rather do fun things than things he's not interested in.
Likes&Dislikes
Likes.
Adventure. Amusing things. Booze. Laughing. Games. Sugar. Coffee.
Dislikes.
Silence. Philosophy. Old people. Laundry.
Apparel
Equipment.
He's always carrying his phone (latest model), but he usually pays more attention to the games on it than the inbox. He has his inspector notebook too. His motorcycle is how he gets around and he takes good care of it. His other possessions don't have much value. If he has his back bag with him it's very likely he has one unfinished detective novel in there that he can dig up if things get boring.
Wardrobe.
He likes suits. They look good and make him appear slightly older than he would if he dressed casually. At home he loses the tie immediately. He hates doing the laundry so he owns a lot of clothes.
Social Characteristics
Emotional Stability. It's going to take a lot to make Ben lose his cool. He's not only good at fooling himself when things get serious but he's also talented when it comes to taking things with humor. He'd rather turn uncomfortable subjects into jokes than actually discuss them. In short his tactic is to avoid whatever feels too difficult to deal with. He refuses to deal with consequences properly. Right now he's doing good, being near his family is nice and starting the new job keeps him excited. If he gets hurt he'll act like it's the worst thing ever.
Humor.
Many things make him laugh since he likes laughing and smiling. Often he'll laugh at stupid jokes to appear polite and then actually start thinking it's funny because the laughing makes him feel so. He likes people who're good at the clever humor, sarcasm and such. Puns and pranks are good.
Reputation.
He's the guy you'll go to if you want to do something stupid and no one else would play along. You can trust Ben to do it. If you need to get something off your chest you can be sure that he won't judge. Whether your secrets are safe with him is another matter though. Ben's on good terms with a lot of people. Even if people insult him he doesn't seem to mind for long. He's often smiling and nothing seems to falter his good mood or enthusiasm so colleagues like to have him around but due to his looks and short attention span people might not want him as their partner however.
Status.
Back at school everyone knew him by reputation at least and he would be the guy who acted friendly even around those people he didn't know. He just got to Blackwell so things are still open here.
School/Work
Education. Police academy and detective training. This is his first real job in the field.
Learning Type. Visual. He appears to be the type that doesn't study much but can still pass tests easily.
Occupation. Inspector at the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. The Missing Persons Unit is under the direction of the Homicide Unit commander and is staffed with one sergeant and four detectives. He started recently.
Work Schedule Can work for a long period without complaining or completely disappear from work for a while. If he's not working he's off-duty.

Anima. He's very much himself when he's alone or when he's with others because the things he has chosen to hide are the things he likes to hides from himself too. He likes to distract himself by always being surrounded by people. If he's left alone his attention span grows even shorter.

Biography
Infancy.
....... (1-3)
His father spent a lot of time away from home and his mother was mentally ill so Ben the baby was often left playing with his older siblings. His mother never assaulted him, Trent took care of that, so he still remembers his mother rather fondly. Even as a baby he was a fast learner and would often get into trouble by trying to run out of an open door or by trying to climb on the top of the bookshelf. When Alexis was born he'd try to carry her everywhere and acted like she was his toy because now she was the youngest.
Childhood.
....... (4-12)
His mother who suffered from mental illness died when he was seven years old. He used to think it was a normal accident (she was very drunk and slipped in the bathroom) and missed his mother for a while. He was too young to understand how dangerous their mother actually was. Alexis found their mother in the bathroom and it messed her up. Trent didn't let Ben see anything of it. Later Alexis would act like their mother was still alive and this scared him a lot. He used to imagine their mother being alive inside the coffin where they buried her.
Later their father made them move to Elkins where Ben found new friends and eventually forgot about his mother. Trent became more and more important because their dad grew really addicted to alcohol and rarely did his duties as their caretaker. He was tall for his age and would often get into fights with Philip because he wanted to be in the leader position in their games. If something was too difficult for him to do (homework etc) he'd talk his siblings into doing it for him. He had a cute puppy face.
Adolescence.
....... (13-19)
After the move to Elkins his father died. When he was 16 Ben became really difficult to deal with. He'd rebel literally against anything and run away from home, committing small crimes with his stupid friends. At this time he had a lot of brief and meaningless relationships. Later Ben started playing football because Trent liked the sport and got himself a scholarship. This straightened him out. He became interested in police work and left Elkins to study to become a detective.
